Thermal Product Solutions (TPS), a global manufacturer of thermal-processing equipment, announced the shipment of a Blue M ASTM industrial oven to a manufacturer in the textile industry. The Blue M oven will be used for testing flat sheet textiles according to ASTM F2894 - Evaluation of Materials, Protective Clothing and Equipment for Heat Resistance Using Hot Air Circulating Oven.
This Blue M industrial oven has a maximum temperature rating of 650⁰ F and a work chamber of 48” wide x 24” deep x 36” high. The oven design and special modifications were originally developed by Blue M for UL back in 2001 for testing fireman’s boots filled with vermiculite. The designs were repurposed to the customer’s and ASTM’s specifications. The ASTM specification calls for a special control thermocouple that can be moved vertically within the work space to position it at the right point on the test sample, specific airflow rate across the work space, and specific recovery time.
“This type of Blue M oven has been supplied to companies in the protective clothing industry for years to test flame and heat resistant products. We strive to meet our customer’s specifications along with industry requirements through our innovative designs." - Alec Francisco
The testing oven features as required by ASTM F2894:
A 30 AWG sheathed type J thermocouple with an exposed tip will be provided that can be moved up and down to position it at the right point on the test sample
Work space airflow speed between 98.4 FPM and 295.3 FPM (0.5 to 1.5 meters per sec.)
Designed for 30-sec recovery time to 260°C
